My Table

"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies." We're living in remarkably stressful times. Can we picture in our souls a beautiful pasture with clear springs, lush grasses, sun and shade? Can we imagine a shepherd who watches over this pasture, guarding us from the predators of fear and worry? "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want...."

It is said, "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." The story of Jacob and Esau is a story of power abused for the sake of self-advancement. The Jesus-story shows us the divine example of power, "the greatest among you shall be the servant of all...for the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many." This week, look for opportunities to serve...and in doing so, reflect the power of Jesus.

    Series: Family
Rest...it's something we often long for but find it's availability allusive. The longing of God is for our deep resting rooted in relationship with Him. This resting does not preclude storms and droughts but in their midst we have a quiet, confident, stillness in which love holds us strong. As David writes, we too find, "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want....Even though I walk through the darkest valley, your rod and staff they comfort me."
